Assessment of p.Phe508del-CFTR functional restoration in pediatric primary cystic fibrosis airway epithelial cells

This study assessed an alternative approach, using a small scale halide assay that can be adapted for a personalized high throughput setting to analyze CFTR function of pAEC.

Quantitative assessment of airway dimensions in young children with cystic fibrosis lung disease using chest computed tomography

To evaluate lung disease progression using AA dimensions on chest CT over 2-years in young CF patients longitudinally and compare to disease controls.

Airway surface liquid pH is not acidic in children with cystic fibrosis

Modulation of ASL pH has been proposed as a therapy for CF. However, evidence that ASL pH is reduced in CF is limited and conflicting.

The potential of phage therapy in cystic fibrosis

This review summarises the phage-microbe-human lung interactions in CF that must be addressed to successfully develop and deliver phage to CF airways

Safety and efficacy of elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor in children ≥2 years with cystic fibrosis: 96-week interim results from a phase 3 open-label extension study

Elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor(ELX/TEZ/IVA) was safe and efficacious in children with CF 2-5y with at least one F508del allele in 24-week phase 3 Trial 445-111. Children who completed 445-111 were eligible for the long-term safety and efficacy extension trial.

An infant nasal microbial gene atlas uncovers intervention-driven microbiome shifts and salt-resistant pathogen expansion

Functional studies of how early-life interventions shape the airway microbiome remain scarce. Here, we performed metagenomic sequencing of 704 longitudinal nasal swabs from infants with and without cystic fibrosis (CF) to construct and characterize a non-redundant gene atlas of the infant nasal microbiome. We aimed to determine how the nasal microbiome is perturbed by early therapies, as CF is commonly treated with inhaled hypertonic saline to improve mucociliary clearance.

NHMRC funding awarded to support child health research

The Kids Research Institute Australia researchers have been awarded more than $10 million in research funding from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC).

Cystic fibrosis research a Eureka Prize finalist

A world-leading cystic fibrosis research program, based at The Kids Research Institute Australia, is a finalist in the 2015 Australian Museum Eureka Prizes.

Healthy lungs, healthy life

The lungs are one of the last organs in the body to develop as a baby grows. They're also one of the most important.

New study recommends changes to cystic fibrosis monitoring in young children

A new Australian study that looked at the long term impacts of early lung infections in young kids with cystic fibrosis has recommended changes to monitoring
